Professor Emeritus W. Rodman (Rod) Smythe passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the age of 90. As an experimental nuclear physicist, Professor Smythe joined the University of Colorado, Boulder Faculty in 1957. During this time of growth in the department, Professor Smythe helped to construct the cyclotron in CU's nuclear physics laboratory, which remained in use for 25 years, providing valuable research data to CU faculty, students and other institutions. He retired in 1995, after 38 years with the Department of Physics and remained in Boulder until his passing.
