Suggestions for winter break

Winter break is here!

Winter break is here!
If your student has come home for winter break, you’re likely excited to spend quality time with them and have them join in on holiday traditions. This is also a great opportunity to help your student think ahead. They have been focused on exams and grades for the last month and haven’t had much of a chance to plan. Now that they’re face-to-face and not just a voice on the phone, it’s the perfect time to have real conversations about their college experience and what could be next. Here are a few things to consider to make this winter break fun and productive:

Scholarships

Did you know that New Student & Family Programs offers a scholarship for continuing students? To apply, students must submit the CU Boulder Scholarship Application no later than Feb. 15. Many other scholarships are available and winter break is a great time for students to work on the application! Learn more about CU Boulder scholarships

 

Tax Forms

Tax season always has a way of sneaking up. So, it might be helpful to encourage your student to start getting ahead! In preparation, their 1098-T form will be available by Jan. 31. Your student can access the form by logging into their MyCUInfo account. Forms will not be mailed. Learn more 

 

 

Start a Conversation

Not quite sure which questions to ask your student about their college experience this semester? Like and follow us on Facebook throughout winter break for some conversation starters! This could encourage your student to open up and think about how to make the spring semester even stronger. Like us on Facebook 

 

Journey Leaders

Does your student have a passion for CU Boulder that they can pass on to incoming students? New Student & Family Programs is looking for students to serve as Journey Leaders for 2017. Encourage your student to apply! The deadline for applications to be submitted is Sunday, Jan. 22. Learn more 

 

 

Planning Ahead
Winter break is a great opportunity for students to start thinking ahead. Encourage your student to consider what they want after college! Spring career fairs will offer a great opportunity for them to talk to companies. They can be even more valuable if your student considers the questions that are important to them and their future. Career Services offers some great tips about how to prepare for career fairs so your student can spend this time working on their resume, getting that perfectly professional outfit and polishing their elevator pitch.
