Theoretical models of the first generations of luminous objects, including the formation of the first stars and black holes and the development of sustained star formation in galaxies. The interaction of stars and other luminous sources with the intergalactic medium, including the epoch of reionization. Observational probes of reionization, especially the redshifted hyperfine 21-cm transition of neutral hydrogen and galaxy populations.
