CU Linguistics is pleased to present a Capstone Lecture by Dr. Joan Bybee, a pioneering cognitive-functonal linguist. Prof. Bybee is best known for proposing the theory of usage-based phonology and for her contributions to cognitive and historical linguistics. Dr. Bybee was nominated by CU Linguistics graduate students. Her talk will take place 4-5:30pm Wednesday, April 19th in CASE E422. The talk will be offered in hybrid format, with both a Zoom audience and in-person audience. The title of her talk, based on joint work with Prof. Carol Moder (Oklahoma State), is "Hyperbole and bleaching in semantic change: the case of grab".
