References

When will I be asked to provide references?

Though not required at the time of application, finalists for staff positions will be contacted to provide professional references. Please refer to the 'special instructions' section in the job posting, which may outline additional details about the position's requirements.

When will I be requested to submit letter providers for letters of recommendation?

Letters of recommendation are typically collected for faculty and research faculty positions. If letters of recommendation are required, the request for letter provider names may happen either at the time of application or later in the process. You will be contacted directly via email with additional details if letter providers are required after application.

I need to change or edit one of my confidential letter reference providers. What do I do?

You can edit your letter providers for a specific job application from the "My Profile" page in the CU Boulder Jobs portal. To do so, log into your account, and from the “Jobs I Have Applied To” list, select “Manage References”. From this page, select "Edit References" to modify the letter providers submitted for that position.

Once the request for letters has been initiated, you cannot edit the contact information for your letter providers. However, you can add additional letter providers by selecting "Manage References" then “Add References” from the “Jobs I Have Applied To” list on the “My Profile” page.

My letter provider did not receive a request for a recommendation or is unable to upload their letter. What do I do?

HR can resend the request to the letter provider on your behalf and can provide support. Please contact us with the title of the position and name/email of your letter provider and we will follow up with them. You should have received an email from one of our recruitment coordinators earlier in the search process and can send this information directly to that person. If you did not receive an email or are unsure who your recruitment coordinator is, please contact us at recruiting@colorado.edu.

How and when will my letter provider be notified to submit a confidential letter of recommendation?

Your letter provider(s) will receive an email with instructions and a URL for submitting the confidential letter of recommendation. The letter(s) of recommendation may be collected at any time throughout the search process. As the candidate, you will also receive an email notifying you when we have initiated the collection of letter(s) of recommendation.

My letter provider does not want to submit an online response. Can a paper letter be sent in?

Letters of recommendation must be submitted online. Contact your assigned recruitment coordinator if you need support. If you did not receive an email or are unsure who your recruitment coordinator is, please contact us at recruiting@colorado.edu.

How do I know if letters of recommendation have been submitted?

If we are at a point in the search process where we want to proceed with your application and have not received the required letter(s) of recommendation, we will contact you to ask for your assistance with following up with your letter provider(s). You can verify or monitor the status of letters of recommendation from the "My Profile" page in the CU Boulder Jobs portal. To do so, log into your account, and from the “Jobs I Have Applied To” list, select “Manage References”. If you have any questions about the letters of recommendation process or the status of submissions for your application, you can contact your recruitment coordinator (Note: please include the job posting title and number and any other relevant details in the email so that we can best assist you). If you are unsure who your recruitment coordinator is, please contact us at recruiting@colorado.edu.
