Address Update Requirement for F-1 Visa Status Holders

Have you recently changed your U.S. address or are you planning a move to a new location?

  • To maintain F-1 visa status, federal regulations require students in F-1 status to report any address changes within 10 days of moving. 

The address you report should be where you are living, even if it is temporary. Do not use a P.O. box, a CU campus address, or a friend’s address (unless you are staying with them). To comply with the F-1 regulation address requirements, be sure you check your Buff Portal and update your local mailing address if needed.

Remember: 

  • F1/J1 international = address in home country 
  • Local address = local address in the U.S.
