Developing leadership skills in college can help you grow both personally and professionally. These skills prepare you to take initiative and work effectively with others—qualities that are valuable in any career. Leadership experiences can also help you meet new friends, build confidence and learn how to adapt to challenges.

The Center for Student Involvement has a few different programs that allow Buffs to develop and improve their leadership skills. Explore these options to find what works for you!   

CU GOLD is your gateway to becoming a confident, capable leader. With two tiers, you can choose your path based on your current level of leadership experience.  

This program is open to all students and occurs in the fall and spring. Those who apply will participate in 1.5-hour weekly sessions for eight weeks.

Bloom is a new peer mentorship program for both developing and experienced student leaders. Mentors and mentees will share tips, support each other’s goals and help each other thrive! 

This program is open to students who are new to executive positions or leadership roles within student organizations.

Learn what it means to be a leader at these drop-in events! Develop leadership skills, broaden your perspective and connect with like-minded peers. 

Build a Buff luncheons are open to all students, and no registration is required to attend. Events are an hour long and occur once a month throughout the academic year.

Serve on a Student Board

 Joining a student board is a great way to contribute to campus life while developing your leadership skills. 

  CSI Board 
The CSI Board works to strengthen the support provided by CSI for students and student organizations. It collaborates with the CSI director to ensure the department achieves its goal of offering programs, events and learning opportunities that enhance the campus experience for everyone at CU Boulder. 

  Cultural Events Board  
The Cultural Events Board is dedicated to filling cultural voids on campus, using around $500,000 worth of student fees annually to achieve this mission. The board encourages student groups who believe they are filling a cultural void on campus to apply for funding.   

  Distinguished Speakers Board   
The Distinguished Speakers Board brings speakers of the highest caliber to campus who will intellectually stimulate the student body and the surrounding community. Ultimately, the board hopes to inspire people by bringing some of the world’s greatest minds to CU Boulder.  

  Program Council
Program Council is a student-run organization that provides affordable, high-quality, face-rocking entertainment and professional event support for the Boulder campus community. For student staff members, Program Council offers educational opportunities to gain experience and insight into the entertainment industry through scheduling, facilitating and producing events. 

  Senior Class Council  
Senior Class Council is a group of student representatives devoted to creating and maintaining class identity as well as unifying the senior class. The council helps keep seniors informed and involved while building pride, tradition and community during their last year as CU Boulder undergraduate students. Their mission is to bring classmates together by creating a lasting and unforgettable experience and making CU a special place that the class will cherish for a lifetime.   

 

Engage in Student Activism

Leadership often goes hand in hand with student activism, as passionate Buffs work to create meaningful change both on campus and beyond. By taking initiative and raising their voices on important issues, student leaders not only advocate for their peers but also help create a culture of engagement, empowerment and social responsibility.
