Andrew Detch

Professor Detch teaches a wide variety of courses on American, Atlantic, and Irish history with particular emphasis on culture and politics. Some of the courses he teaches include: “American History to 1865,” “The Colonial Wars and the Coming of American Independence,” “The American Revolutionary War and the Early American Republic,” and “Trials and Triumphs on the Emerald Isle: The Irish People and Their Histories, 1641-1998.” Professor Detch is a passionate teacher who emphasizes active learning and Socratic dialogue in all his courses.
Professor Detch received his B.A. in Classics cum laude from CU Boulder, his M.A. in History from Brown University, and his Ph.D. in History from CU Boulder. His Dissertation “Liberty’s Forest: Liberty Trees and Liberty Poles During the Age of Revolution” examines how revolutionaries used liberty trees and poles to build and define communities throughout the Atlantic world during the Age of Revolution. He has given numerous papers on the subject in the United States, France, and the U.K.
