Prescription Medication Safety Information

There are 35 prescription drug deaths every month in Colorado. Safe use, safe storage and safe disposal all contribute to keeping our communities, environment and peers healthy.

Medication disposal

Need to dispose of unused medication? Visit the permanent prescription take-back box located in the lobby of the Police and Parking Services building at CU Boulder. Campus community members can dispose of unwanted prescription medications in this box at any time. CUPD is able to accept over-the-counter and prescription medications with the following exceptions:

• No needles or sharps,
• No mercury (thermometers),
• No oxygen cylinders or pressurized canisters,
• No chemotherapy or radioactive substances, and
• No illicit drugs.
