Letter from Jess

Dear Team,

Jess Doty

I hope you all had an opportunity over spring break to engage in practices that support your well-being. Taking time to recharge is essential, and I appreciate all the ways you balance caring for yourselves while continuing to show up so fully for our students, staff and each other.

I also want to extend my gratitude for a positive and engaging all-staff meeting. Your questions and feedback are invaluable, and I appreciate the thoughtful insights shared. Many of you expressed a desire for more time to ask questions and opportunities to connect informally with colleagues across the division. We hear you, and we’ll explore ways to incorporate these elements into future meetings.

Additionally, I continue to hear feedback about the need for new and improved communication across the Division of Health and Wellness. In the coming months, we will be exploring ways to enhance how we share information and stay connected. If you have any ideas, please feel free to share them with me directly—I would love to hear your thoughts.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue expanding on the Mental Health initiative communicated by Chancellor Schwartz. This initiative will be a crucial step in enhancing our commitment to student well-being and move us toward becoming a JED campus. Health and Wellness will play an integral role in this multi-year process, and I look forward to partnering with our team and the broader campus community to move this work forward.

Thank you for the work you do every day. This team is truly exceptional in its dedication to caring for others, and the impact you make does not go unnoticed. I am grateful to be on this journey with you.

With appreciation, Jess

6 tips for staff and faculty experiencing burnout

End-of-semester stress is real. If you're feeling burned out, try these strategies:

  • Give yourself and others grace: Burnout isn’t just personal; structural factors play a role. Support yourself and colleagues.
  • Evaluate expectations: Identify what’s realistic and within your control. Adjust where needed.
  • Focus on what’s in your control: Prioritize where you can make a difference and let go of what you can’t.
  • Delegate tasks: Trust your team and lighten your workload.
  • Diversify your time: Step away from work. Engage in hobbies, take breaks and use your vacation time.
  • Seek support: Reach out to colleagues, supervisors or campus resources like FSAP, the Ombuds Office and WorkWell.

Free overdose prevention supplies available

CU Boulder continues to expand access to free naloxone and fentanyl test strips across campus in an effort to prevent overdoses. Since 2022, we have distributed over 7,500 doses of naloxone and more than 10,000 fentanyl test strips. Resources are available at various locations, including Wardenburg Medical Center, the CU Collegiate Recovery Community, CAPS, OVA, the Rec Center and Residence Life. Naloxone has also been added to AED stations in every residence hall.

This month, The Naloxone Project generously donated 10,000 doses to CU Boulder, supporting our continued efforts in overdose prevention. Other generous donations have come from End Overdose and Boulder County Public Health Works Program.
