The hidden earth below our feet creates the forces that drive the movement of plates, the stresses relieved in earthquakes and the creation of mountains. Research into this realm is at the scale of hundreds of kilometers to continents to the globe itself and requires tools that can integrate information over such vast terrains or replicate conditions found deep into Earth. Our research employs tools that see Earth changing from space and explore the internal structure of the planet using variations in physical observables like seismic waves, gravity, and electric currents. Our program is dominantly observational, focusing on identifying the measurements that can validate or invalidate theory or recognize risk or quantify change on Earth.
