Planetary Geology involves the origin and age of the solid bodies in the solar system (planets, satellites, asteroids, comets, and rings) and the geological evolution of their surfaces and interiors.

Cosmochemistry  investigates the origin, history and transformation of matter in the Universe, Galaxy, solar system, and planetary objects. The topic naturally includes study of the important chemical and isotopic components that went into the formation of the singular example we have of a habitable planet, Earth.

Both Cosmochemistry and Planetary Geology are closely linked with Earth-based studies, such as Geochemistry, Petrology, Geomorphology, Geochronology, Geodynamics, Structure and Tectonics.
