The National Academies Press recently released a report about the future geospatial workforce, commissioned by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). The report includes labor statistics and projections for GIS, spatial analysis, remote sensing, and cartography as well as for several emerging disciplines (crowdsourcing, forecasting, visual analytics, and human geography). The report will inform discussions regarding existing and planned university level geospatial training, as well as employment opportunities in local and state agencies, in environmental modeling and in homeland security and emergency management applications.
