Facility Optimization
The Energy Services Organization manages and performs energy audits, facility system assessments and recommissioning to identify both energy and capital renewal measures. Internal staff as well as third party energy services companies work with the ESO and operations to identify and quantify facility improvement measures.
Facility Improvement measures such as LED lighting upgrades, mechanical equipment upgrades, and controls optimization are being implemented across campus in an effort to optimize the performance of campus buildings.
Recommissioning of the existing buildings is part of a Continuous Commissioning effort. Working with campus engineering, operations and campus stakeholders, projects are identified for RCx projects and implemented by the ESO.
Deferred Maintenance

Water System Upgrades
The water system in Duane Physics has been connected to the district chilled water loop in response to outdated HVAC systems, providing a sustainable solution while reducing operation costs.

HVAC Upgrades
The Air Change Rate pilot in the Ramaley building will optimize ventilation rates to reduce the percentage of outside air requiring conditioning due to chemical ventilation requirements, reducing energy consumption by almost 38%.
Recommissioning

UMC Re-commissioning
A re-commissioning project was conducted for the University Memorial Center (UMC) as part of the Xcel program to reduce electrical demand and consumption and to reduce natural gas consumption.

Gold and Porter Re-commissioning
Gold and Porter were selected in 2015 to undergo a complete re-commissioning study to address operational concerns and energy efficiency.

Coors Event Center Lighting Upgrades
The Coors Event Center at CU Boulder is outfitted with low-flow water fixtures, high-performance insulation and windows, efficient lighting, and lighting and heating controls that are key to optimizing energy savings.

Coors Event Center
In May 2012, the Coors volleyball and basketball practice facility received a LEED platinum rating from the United States Green Building Council. It was the first LEED-certified athletic facility on the CU Boulder campus.
