Activities you can do this summer while staying safe
Have some indoor fun
There are many activities you can do inside and even in your backyard to keep you entertained. We’ve put together a list of some ideas for you to try.
Pursue a passion project. Have you always wanted to paint like Bob Ross? How about starting that travel picture collage you’ve always wanted? This could be a great time to dedicate your summer to start those projects.
Take care of yourself. In times like these, it’s important to take care of yourself. Find things that bring you peace, comfort and ease. Whether that’s watching your favorite show on Netflix or making time to chat with your family. Give yourself the space to enjoy this rare downtime in life.
Play some games. There is no better pastime during quarantine than board games, from a simple BlackJack match to a Mario Kart Challenge. If you live with others, take advantage and entertain yourselves with board games. If you don’t have anything available- there are plenty of online platforms that are great for game playing.
Learn to cook. You don’t have to become the next greatest chef, unless you want to. You can try picking one or two recipes that you want to learn how to make and try them out. If you don’t get it the first time, no worries, you’ve got plenty of time to perfect it.
Set up camp. Who says you can’t go camping in your living room? Camping is a great way to disconnect, and even though you can’t do it outside nothing is stopping you from making it happen inside. If you have a tent, great, if not set up a fort with pillows and blankets. Prepare yourself camping snacks, set up nature backgrounds for sound and make some marshmallows in the microwave.
The important thing to remember is that your home is the limit. So long as you are making whatever you do a fun time, it will all be worth it.
Enjoy nature
Even though you won’t have the freedom to go on hikes with a group of people, there are still a few things you can do outside while maintaining your distance.
Star gaze. Getting out to trails might be limited due to the current COVID-19 situation, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find other ways to enjoy nature. Star gazing, as simple as it sounds, can be a great way to spend your evenings. If you don’t have a porch, find a patch of green grass where you live, take a blanket, snacks and enjoy a cozy evening.
Ride your bike. One way to get to know a new place is by exploring. One way you can get to know your new hometown is by taking a bike ride and checking out the city. Even though places may not be open, it doesn’t hurt to explore what is around you. Remember, don’t forget to wear a cloth mask and keep your distance.
Take a walk. Stepping outside your home for as little as 5 minutes can be fun. Perhaps you make it a challenge and try to spot as many green things as possible or count the number of cars on the block. You can even try to beat your own record of how fast you can walk around your neighborhood.
