First-Generation Students

First-generation college students represent a wide variety of identities, backgrounds and experiences. At CU Boulder, we define first gen as a student whose parents or guardians have not received a bachelor's degree in the United States. Being first gen is a big deal, and we’re excited to support you in your transition to the university!

As a student in the Program in Exploratory Studies, you will explore majors and academically enriching opportunities and discover ways to make the CU experience your own.

Looking to connect with a Mosaic Leader in Exploratory Studies?

Once you’ve completed the interest form, we’ll connect you with one of our Mosaic Leaders in PES! Mosaic Leaders are first-gen student leaders who can provide resources and support for navigating the university.

Mosaic Intercultural Leadership Program

Mosaic is a semester-long cohort program designed to unite first-generation college students from PES who are globally conscious leaders and are eager to make a positive impact on their community. As part of a small group, students in the Mosaic program can participate in civic, leadership and community-building opportunities throughout the fall semester. Students will also have access to a peer mentor who can provide guidance and resources to succeed at CU Boulder.
