Know before you go: Spring Volunteer Fair

Volunteering is often overlooked as a way to get involved. Volunteering not only can be added to your resume, but it is also a great way to meet new people, network with various organizations and help out a variety of causes. We encourage you to attend the Spring Volunteer Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3 in the Glenn Miller Ballroom to learn more about non-profits in the area and make some connections of your own. Here are some things to know before the fair next week.

Connect with local non-profits in person

Non-profit organizations from Boulder and the surrounding areas will be present at the fair to interact with you. You can also learn more about on-campus volunteer opportunities. You can speak with them about the work they do and learn about how you can work with them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions because these connections can help you find the right fit!

Some organizations you can expect to meet at the fair are Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, Harvest of Hope Pantry, Boulder Ensemble Theater Company and many more.

Make a list of questions

Speaking of questions, here are some sample questions that might be good to ask as you browse the Volunteer Fair:

  • What types of roles are available for a volunteer?
  • What is the time commitment to be a volunteer?
  • Are volunteers able to have flexible schedules?
  • How can I get involved as a volunteer?
  • What type of training will volunteers receive?

Discover organizations that meet your interests

Sometimes it’s hard to know what type of service you want to participate in. Similarly, it can be hard to find organizations in the area to work with. This volunteer fair will expose you to many different types of local organizations. You can discover their mission and see if it lines up with what you are interested in.

Sign-up to volunteer with organizations present at the fair

Once you explore the organizations at the fair, you can sign-up to volunteer. Sometimes the hardest part about getting involved with volunteer work is actually making the commitment. Hold yourself accountable and make it a goal to leave the fair with a date on your calendar.

Free food

And last but not least, we have to mention free food because who doesn’t love free food? Stop by for a snack as you browse the fair.
