When do you need to declare?

You are encouraged to declare a major by the time you have 45 credit hours. Declaring a major after your first year may delay graduation. Your advisor can help you map out 4-year degree plans for the majors you are interested in.

If it will take more than four years to complete your major, be sure to talk with whomever is involved in paying tuition. You may want to think about your budget and plan ahead.

How to declare your major

As a PES student, you will need to intra-university transfer (IUT) into your college of choice. Each college and school has different requirements which you will need to meet. Talk with your advisor about the majors you are interested in to learn more about their academic requirements. For example, some majors require certain courses to be completed before you are able to IUT.

Changing or adding majors

Declaring a major does not mean you can never change your mind! You might decide to switch your major or to add another major, minor or certificate. Talking to your advisor often will help with this process – they can help you adjust your plans as you discover new areas of interest. Just remember that these changes may alter your graduation timeline.
