Rick Sakaji Senior Water Resources Engineer, State of California 

At present Dr. Richard Sakaji is working part time for the Division of Drinking Water in the California State Water Resources Control Board and is serving on the Willamette Valley Water District’s Blue Ribbon Panel.  His last full-time position was as Manager of Water Quality at the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD).  Prior to working for EBMUD he was with the California Department of Public Health as a water treatment specialist for the Drinking Water Program.  Dr. Sakaji’s background in research and regulatory affairs in public health, water quality, wastewater reclamation, and water-treatment will allow him to bring a technical, regulatory, and public-health background to this advisory committee.  He was also among the co-authors of NWRI’s Ultraviolet Disinfection Guidelines for Drinking Water and Water Reuse (first edition, only).  Dr. Sakaji received an A.B. in Marine Biological Studies and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
