Tuesday, December 5:
4:00pm-5:45pm: The Power of Light in Polymer Chemistry: Making Smart, Responsive Materials with Light by Prof. Chris Bowman

In the 111th Distinguished Research Lecture, Prof. Bowman will discuss living in the “Plastics Age” and how the abilities of polymeric materials continue to transform our everyday lives by advancing technology. The value of polymer formation and properties is especially high when controlled by light exposure, and Bowman will discuss “smart” manufacturing and designing processes involving polymers.

At this event, Specialist Lauren Harris will give a talk on emotional intelligence. Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize and understand emotions in yourself and others, and your ability to use this awareness to manage your behavior and relationships. EI has been shown to increase job performance, productivity, and personal excellence. Come to this 2-hour seminar to explore this important ability and gain skills to improve your own emotional intelligence. This event is free and open to all individuals seeking to enhance their self knowledge and interpersonal relationships.

The ATLAS tower light is ready to be hacked... by you. If you want to know how, join us for pizza and a presentation by Slaton Spangler, who has developed software and impressive light projection capabilities. After the presentation, we'll all go out for the grand illumination of the building! All are welcome!

6:30pm-8:30pm: Wallace Stegner & Fools for a Day Award Reception

Each year, the Center of the American West presents the Wallace Stegner Award to an individual or group of individuals who have made a sustained contribution to the cultural identity of the West through literature, art, history, lore, or an understanding of the West. The Center also presents a Fool for a Day award annually to celebrate those individuals whose skills and temperaments support the central conviction of the Center of the American West: A dose of good humor is essential to constructive public discussion, and not coincidentally, to public health. This year they are proud to Present it to Senator Alan and Pete Simpson and their wives Anne and Lynne for their dedication to these causes.

The ITL Design Expo is held twice a year, at the end of the fall and spring semesters. The event takes place at the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory on the CU Boulder campus. Student groups from all engineering majors are invited to display their projects for judges, fellow students and the public.

5:00pm-7:00pm: Final Project Expo: Applications of Embedded Systems
Fleming building, Idea Forge, 2445 Kittredge Loop Rd, Boulder CO
Join our sophomore electrical and computer engineering students as they show off the embedded systems design projects they've been working on throughout the fall semester. Projects range from custom RC cars, to laser harps, to wireless robot control, to secure bike locking. Open to all!
