Fall grads

The Engineering Recognition Ceremony celebrates the imminent graduation of College of Engineering and Applied Science bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students. It is held twice a year (May and December), the day before University Commencement. At the Engineering Recognition Ceremony, graduates are recognized individually by name and take the traditional walk across the stage to receive their diploma cover.

Graduating students are invited to participate in either one or both graduation events. The information below pertains to December degree candidates and the Engineering Recognition Ceremony only. For information regarding University Commencement, click here.

Date: Friday, December 19, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

Time: Students should report to the Eaton Humanities living room/student lounge between 8:15-8:30 a.m. When you arrive at the Eaton Humanities living room/student lounge, pick up your preprinted name card. You will give this to the reader on stage during the ceremony. Our staff will line you up by academic degree program for the processional to Macky Auditorium. Do not leave any personal items in the Eaton Humanities building.

Place: Macky Auditorium

Dress: Degree candidates are encouraged to wear a cap and gown. Undergraduates wearing regalia should have their tassel on the right; all graduate students should wear their tassel on the left. PhD candidates MUST be in academic regalia; please carry your hood, do not wear it. Information about purchase or rental of academic regalia may be found on the University Commencement web site.

Processional: The processional will begin with the PhD candidates, then the Master's and Bachelor's candidates. Please remain standing until the platform party is on stage.

  • PhD candidates will be hooded by their faculty advisors. Your advisor should line up in front of you for the procession, and should sit next to you. When you get up to walk to the stage, carry your hood on your left arm, and each faculty advisor should walk IN FRONT OF the candidate towards the stage. At the top of the stage steps, hand your card to the reader and then stand in front of your advisor on the stage as your face the audience. As your name is read, your advisor will hood you. (NOTE:  If your faculty advisor is unable to attend, the Associate Dean already on stage will hood you.)

  • Master's and Bachelor's candidates will be directed by an usher to form a line to the stage. When you reach the stage stairs, follow the directions of the usher and the staff at the stage; proceed up the steps and hand your card to the reader. Cross the stage as your name is read and then return to your seat as directed by the ushers.

If you have a physical condition that will not allow you to use the stage, please contact the Dean's Office at 303-492-5071 by November 30 so alternate arrangements can be made.

A professional photographer will be present. The photographer will contact you directly about purchasing these optional photographs. To assist the photographer, please do not fold your name card.

Guests: Family and friends should use the center south (main) entrance of Macky Auditorium. No tickets are required.

To request a sign language interpreter, please call 303-492-5071 by November 30.

This Recognition Ceremony will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Please remain in your seat until all the graduates have been recognized and the platform party has exited the stage.
