Student Edition - March 10, 2020

Looking for volunteer opportunities in the field of design? Growing Up Boulder is Boulder's Child and Youth Friendly City Initiative based out of the Community Engagement Design and Research (CEDaR) Center in ENVD, and our mission is to get young people's voices into current city planning projects.

We bring real city projects in the areas of planning, landscape architecture, transportation, and more into school classrooms and after school programs. As a volunteer with Growing Up Boulder, you may choose which projects and community events you would like to be a part of. Make a difference in your community by working with kids today!

Everyone who submits a thought will have it etched into our display. We would love to have ALL ENVD students represented in Italy. Let the world see how you feel on this topic.

DTJ, a local architecture and landscape architecture firm, will host a portfolio workshop at ENVD. This is an opportunity to see first-hand what a firm looks for when they receive portfolios, and how you can incorporate these tips into your own portfolios.

This event is open to all years of study. Snacks provided!

Interact with a variety of firms from all fields in design. Come talk to leading professionals and get your foot in the door. All environmental design majors are welcome to attend. A portfolio and/or resume are recommended.

Michael Arad, AIA, LEED AP 
Arad will describe the public design process that led to the creation of the National 9/11 Memorial in New York, and the design for a memorial at the Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston. Both of these projects rely on the creation of an explicit public realm to meaningfully engage their visitors and give these sites of tragedy a civic presence in their city’s history and urban fabric.

ENVD is hosting its first-ever Wikipedia edit-a-thon in collaboration with Norlin Library. Participants will work collectively to edit Wikipedia entries for women in design to enhance their visibility and contribute toward shaping more equitable foundations of design knowledge.
