National and State Register of Historic Places Diversity Internship (Hybrid and In-person)
History Colorado is seeking two interns to work with the Colorado Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation’s Preservation Planning Unit. While History Colorado has taken major steps towards adding more BIPOC-related resources to both the National and State Register over the last decade, the numbers of resources listed in the categories of African-American, Hispano, Native American, and Asian American history remain proportionally low. In the interest of telling the full history of Colorado’s built environment, History Colorado’s Preservation Planning Unit seeks to engage interns to assist in updating existing National and State Register nominations to expand the listed areas of significance. Fehr and Peers - Transportation Intern (Denver)
Though a relatively small team of 13 people (comprised of planners, engineers, and a graphic designer), our Denver office has a broad reach in both geography and scope. We work on a variety of projects in communities all around the state of Colorado, ranging across curbside management, transportation impact assessments, road safety audits, bikeway design, and more. Our notable past project work includes the South Broadway Multimodal Design Project, the Denver Community Transportation Networks, and the University of Colorado, Boulder Transportation Master Plan.
Our ideal intern candidate has or is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with an interest in transportation planning. Interns at Fehr & Peers contribute substantively to our work, and this position offers 15-25 hours per week. DesignWorkshop - Technical Design Intern Landscape Architecture (Denver)
Design Workshop internships are designed to expose students to a collaborative, professional office environment and a team of experienced design professionals. The selected individual will participate in an internship at Design Workshop from January to May, with the option to extend through August. Students will be exposed to both the creative and business environment. This position will be focused on technical aspects of our work and dedicated to collaborating and working directly with our two technical principals and firm-wide quality champions. Design Workshop's technical principals provide great project execution experience, quality management and leadership firm-wide. They demonstrate a highly technical aptitude, strong mentorship skills, and passion for quality and innovation. This position is available either in our Denver or Aspen studio and could provide the opportunity to travel between both studios.
Assignments will vary and may include project research, site visits, sketching, CAD and graphic computer production, document layout and participation in design reviews. Students must possess exceptional graphic, AutoCAD, analysis and digital production skills. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) and impeccable writing skills are essential. Additional requirements include strong technical skills (plan documentation, site detailing, site grading, general site materials and construction knowledge) as well as a passion for getting projects built. Candidates must be well-organized, energetic, self-motivated, great communicators and possess strong leadership qualities.
Recent graduates as well as students pursuing degrees in landscape architecture are encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity for those that have an interest in the built environment and may have prior experience with a landscape contractor, general contractor or fabricator.

Environmental Planning/GIS Mapping Internship with the Colorado Headwaters Land Trust
A environmental planning non-profit organization (CHLT) is seeking environmental planning and landscape architecture students to develop a GIS database using topographic maps to identify potential conservation areas on private lands in Grand County that can be prioritized by a specific area’s concentration of natural and cultural resource values. The maps CHLT has developed over time to identify potential conservation areas in Grand County need to be updated and functionally improved. This will facilitate our being more proactive in pursuing conservation easements.
Some funding may be available for student interns and they may undertake the internship virtually
Natural and Cultural Resources with Conservation Value to be Mapped
- Rivers and streams of the Colorado River headwaters
- Riparian areas, wetlands and crucial fish and amphibian habitats
- Crucial wildlife habitat including migratory corridors
- Important vegetation communities
- Scenic landscapes
- Important active agricultural lands
- Historically important agricultural or other lands and/or structures.
The database for scenic landscapes will need to be developed using the U.S. Forest Service Scenery Management System for inventorying scenic landscapes and assigning scenic values. CHLT can provide this information. Forest Service landscape architects developed and manage the scenery management program, so it is recommended that this database be developed by landscape architecture students and students interested in environmental planning.
- A solid basis in GIS
- Some Auto-Cad and experience with Excel will be useful
