Although we had to cancel our in-person ceremony because of COVID-19, the English Department will be holding a virtual department commencement ceremony on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 10am Mountain Time for all undergraduate and graduate students who are graduating in Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Summer 2020.

This virtual commencement ceremony will be pre-recorded, not livestreamed, and the recording will remain online indefinitely. Each individual graduate will have their name read aloud, just as it would have been read at our in-person ceremony. Additionally, each student will be able to create a “slide card” with their name, major, and degree, as well as a personal message and photo that will appear while their name is read during the pre-recorded ceremony. We are using a platform called MarchingOrder for the virtual ceremony

The event and commencement website will be available to students and their families beginning May 15th, 2020, at 10 AM.

Students will be receiving an e-mail directly from MarchingOrder with instructions on how to submit their personalized slide cards for the ceremony soon.

We understand that a virtual commencement is not the same as an in-person ceremony, but we want to recognize the achievements of our graduates in some way right now. This year’s graduates are also invited to attend the Spring 2021 English Department commencement if they would like to participate in an in-person ceremony next year.
