Typically, initial appointments are for four academic years. The comprehensive review typically occurs during the fourth year of full-time service and focuses on focuses upon whether or not the candidate is making normal progress toward meeting or exceeding the
university standard for tenure. Upon successful reappointment, the mandatory promotion and tenure review (usually in the seventh year of appointment) focuses on whether or not the candidate has attained the
university standard for tenure. These reviews can be delayed due to certain types of leaves (see Section III of the
university standard for tenure.
