Diamond Darling, Program Manager for Alumni Engagement, Advancement
Diamond Darling leads the planning of the college’s signature alumni events and creates opportunities for the CU Engineering community to connect. Before joining the college, she worked at CU Boulder’s Center for Humanities & the Arts and, before that, in an event planning and communications role at the University of Kentucky. She also spent several years in the hotel industry, where she discovered how much she enjoys bringing people together and creating memorable experiences.
Originally from the Southeast, Diamond eventually made her way to Colorado and quickly fell in love with being outdoors. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, camping, backpacking, pickleball, live music, baking and exploring new places. She feels most at peace in nature and is always looking for her next adventure, whether that’s a weekend camping trip, a new trail, or a road trip somewhere she’s never been.
What has been your favorite experience since joining the CU Engineering community?
One of my favorite experiences was helping plan the Onizuka Hall renaming with the Division of Student Life. During the college’s new employee orientation, we watched The Light Shines On, a short film about CU Boulder’s history. When I learned we were planning the renaming of Onizuka Hall, I brought the film to the Division of Student Life, and we were able to re-edit part of it to showcase Ellison Onizuka during the ceremony. It was really special to see something I discovered during my own orientation become part of such a meaningful celebration.
What do you like to do to unwind?
I feel most at peace in nature, so hiking, camping and being outside are my favorite ways to recharge. I also enjoy yoga and mindful journaling.
Where is the best place you've traveled to and why?
This summer, I took a solo road trip through Montana and Wyoming, visiting three national parks for the first time: Grand Teton, Glacier and Yellowstone. I camped along the way and even made a stop in Missoula for a music festival. It was an amazing mix of adventure, beautiful scenery, live music and time to myself.
What's something most people don't know about you?
I was co-captain of my high school bowling team! I also started running for the first time last year and completed the Bolder Boulder 10K this year.
What is an ordinary moment in life that brings you joy?
Waking up to the sun streaming through my windows, hearing the rain outside, or finding a little wildflower on a walk. I love those little moments that make me feel peaceful and remind me how lucky I am.
What has been your favorite project so far, either personal or professional?
I really loved planning the college’s first-ever Alumni Weekend Brunch for CU Boulder’s 150th anniversary this spring. It was really rewarding to create a space where alumni from different generations could reconnect, celebrate the college’s legacy, and enjoy being back on campus together. Plus, we had a pretty great view of Folsom Field!
