Ryan Huff

Ryan Huff has spent the past 23 years as a newspaper reporter/editor and a strategic communications leader in the fields of higher education, travel and urban planning. Ryan began his public relations career as the CU Boulder Police communications manager in 2011 before joining Strategic Relations & Communications as the senior director of issues management and chief spokesperson. During that time, he helped manage media relations for campus crises and high-profile events, including three visits from President Obama, the 2013 floods and outreach events across Colorado with then-Chancellor Phil DiStefano. 

More recently, Ryan served as the director of communications and public affairs for Denver’s Community Planning & Development Department. He also has experience as CU Denver’s communications director overseeing a team working on research communications, internal communications and web operations. During the pandemic, Ryan worked at Vail Resorts, where he led a team of managers as the director of communications for the company's five Colorado resorts. He has also been honored with a Denver Business Journal “40 Under 40” award and the 2013 Colorado Public Information Officer of the Year Award presented by the Emergency Services Public Information Officers of Colorado (ESPIOC).

Prior to his strategic communications experience, Ryan spent a decade as a newspaper reporter and editor at California papers and the Boulder Daily Camera. Some of his assignments included writing stories from the battlefields of Iraq and serving on a Pulitzer Prize-winning team of journalists covering Hurricane Katrina. Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. 

Ryan and his family enjoy the Colorado outdoors and spend free time backpacking, skiing and biking.
