A warm welcome from CMCI’s first Associate Dean of DEI

Karen teachingHello all, and thank you for visiting our new and growing site devoted to DEI! With the creation of a new leadership role—Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion—CMCI has just doubled down on its commitment. It is my mission to help translate that commitment into action.

Support DEI at CMCI

DEI matters to our college vision. CMCI strives to be a community whose excellence depends on diversity, equity and inclusion. We aim to understand and challenge systems of privilege and disadvantage in higher education, such as those based on class, race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality. We reach across social and political divides to make space for voices historically underrepresented in higher education and marginalized in society.

Specifically, a strong commitment to inclusive excellence guides our academic programs and workplace culture. Diversity is not just a distant reality for which we try to prepare students. It is a priority we aim to put into practice herenow and together, in order to foster places of learning and working where all members can thrive.

If you are a prospective member of our community or an alumni, perhaps visiting this page to learn more about DEI in our college, feel free to contact me directly. There’s so much more than we can share on this site and I am here to help with any questions you may have!

If you are a current member of the college, my question for you is: How are we doing? We want to hear about your experience so that we can do better, and also know where we are finding success. Please contact me or any member of our DEI team...

  • If you need support or other resources but don’t know where to turn
  • If any aspect of your educational and/or employment experience with CMCI does not reflect the commitment expressed above, or if you want to share a positive instance of this commitment in action
  • If you have questions, concerns or ideas related to DEI

The message: We truly want to hear from you and to serve as a resource for you!

I look forward to working with you to make CMCI a more diverse, inclusive and equitable community!
