Anti-Racist Pedagogy Learning Community Application
In the Spring 2021 semester, Becca Ciancanelli (Inclusive Pedagogy Lead, Center for Teaching & Learning) and Jason Lagapa (Professional Development Lead, Center for Teaching & Learning) are offering an Anti-Racist Pedagogy learning community.
This learning community focuses on the experiences of people of color in campus classrooms and seeks to redress educational disparities among underserved student populations. Toward this end, we will meet to discuss various chapters, poems, and essays that engage multiple racial and ethnic perspectives. We will also explore aspects of racial identity development to understand the role that race plays within an academic community. As we set out to design anti-racist pedagogy for CU classrooms, our shared purpose will be to develop strategies that cultivate a meaningful sense of belonging at CU.
Goals of the learning community:
- Recognize the impact of oppressive interactions and microaggressions on campus
- Cultivate awareness of bias and address the complexity of racial identity development
- Identify and develop anti-racist pedagogy for the classroom
Time commitment:
- 6 group sessions: 8 hours
- Reading and reflection assignments between sessions: 6-8 hours
- Final group project work: 1-2 hours
The participants will include a diverse group of graduate students, teaching staff, and faculty. Registration is limited to 12 participants. Please fill out this application to indicate your interest in this course. This application is confidential and will be seen by the facilitators, Becca and Jason. Please email Jason (jason.lagapa@colorado.edu) or Becca (becca.ciancanelli@colorado.edu) with questions.
