I have a great interest in either studying abroad during college or living in another country post-graduation, especially in regions where Spanish - including Spanish dialects - is the primary language of communication, which includes approximately 21 countries.
I have been a witness to aspects of the infrastructures and cultures of Belize, as an example. Belize has an extremely poor and limited infrastructure and has only recently received improved internet access. Internet access is something the majority of people in highly developed countries, such as the U.S., take for granted. This simply emphasizes how imbalanced access to technology is around the world. My own stable financial situation has allowed me to recognize how privileged I am, urging me to use my privilege for the betterment of others’ standards of living, which includes access to technology. To do this, it is necessary for engineers to be well-versed in global affairs so that we can make appropriate judgments on how to go about improving life for those in poverty, rather than for just those in our own countries.
I am highly aware of the immense poverty around the world and engineers’ lack of knowledge of the wide disparities in global wealth; this is extremely concerning as it should be a goal for engineers to improve technology and accessibility to clean water, shelter, adequate food, and technology for all. Doing so would allow for more innovation and invention, and it is becoming more and more important for engineers to be involved in international affairs, which includes directly communicating with suppliers.
One of my primary goals as a future engineer is to do all that I can to reduce poverty by working alongside other professionals from around the world, and the Global Engineering RAP is an outstanding community that will help me to do so. Whatever path I take in life, I will be dedicated to studying poverty and how it can be reduced through the efforts of engineers worldwide.

I would like to live in the same hall as someone with a completely different worldview and upbringing than myself. I absolutely love to learn about other ways of thinking through discussion, as being exposed to diversity will allow me (and the other individual) to be more open-minded and educated. Studies have shown that diversity within the workplace improves performance and outcomes, and it is not without reason to apply this to an educational environment.
To be specific, I want the individual to have right-leaning political views, and possibly be religious, because I am left-leaning and atheist. Potentially they would have also grown up in a state other than Ohio, which is my home; in a perfect world they would be from another country, maximizing the differences between us.
In order to be a great international engineer, one must be understanding of other cultures and beliefs, and having a hallmate across the hall with opposing views would help me achieve that by giving me direct access to a human resource.

As a woman with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), I will bring new ideas and ways of thinking to the residential community as well as the Global Engineering RAP’s network around the world. The different ways my brain functions are often considered to be hindrances, but I see them as strengths when I need to be creative and think outside the box. Even in a world that caters to neurotypical people, I have found ways to succeed academically and socially, against the odds. I have been in several leadership positions during high school as well and I plan to further strengthen my collaboration skills in college, which has been a rough journey due to my neurodivergence. Diversity is extremely important in education and the workplace, as it has been proven to improve productivity and performance. As a part of the neurodivergent community and the community of women, I have an interesting background that will greatly contribute to the engineering world.
