While I have not done much travel or study abroad, I am constantly interested in different cultures and languages. I have been learning Spanish since I was in 1st grade and dedicate myself to learn other languages in different ways. I am on my 70th day streak of Duolingo for Spanish and Japanese, I use it to keep up to date on Spanish basics and to try and learn Japanese along with translating what I watch in various animes. Although I haven't travelled much, my parents have always instilled in me a belief that it is important to learn about other cultures. My dad constantly teaches us new things whether it be through documentaries or an attempt to make a dish we have never had, my mom especially loves to make Persian food. I hope to get more cultural experiences in the future, but for now, my passion for learning about the world around me has amply prepared me for something like the Global Engineering RAP.
The person I would want to live down the hall from me would be someone who, at their core, loves to learn! Ideally they would be dedicated to their studies, willing to lend a helping hand, and not be loud on school nights; while also being open to talk about current affairs, something random, or just listen to music. I look forward to meeting people with similar interests (music, photography, history, and Jane Austen) but also meeting people with different interests who can teach me new things. I am an avid vexillology fan and I love to ask people their favorite flags, I am confident that I would be able to find people down the hall from me who were equally interested in vexillology and history.
I have always been incredibly interested in engineering and knew that STEM was what I wanted to do, but I also love other subjects especially English and other languages. I have been in Spanish since I was very little but never pursued it over things because I didn't realize there was a connection, I loved language from afar. When I narrowed down what I wanted to do it was between physics and english, with languages intertwined somehow. It became important that I pursued a language as a minor because I think it is super important to have information about other cultures and to learn new things. I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP because I would like to be a part of a smaller community at CU and this RAP has everything I want. It is a group of kids who are involved in engineering and care about their global impact through engineering. I want to work with people to find ways to use engineering to help in problems much bigger than myself, and make a global impact. I am really dedicated to challenging myself and working with other people and would bring my best to every experience, even if it is just making new friends in the RAP. I am looking forward to college as a way to get out my comfort zone and try new things and the Global Engineering RAP would be a cool way for me to do that.
