Most of my travel experiences have been within the United States. My family loves outdoor adventures and we have done extensive camping, climbing, and exploring in Alaska, Montana, Oregon, Utah, New Mexico, Minnesota, Washington, Wyoming, California, and of course Colorado. My opportunities to travel outside of the country have been to Mexico for family vacations and Finland to compete in the Youth World Ice Climbing Championship. I had travel arrangements to explore Greece in March of 2020 for a rock climbing trip with my climbing team over Spring Break and also plans to compete in Korea, Switzerland, and Russia for additional international ice climbing competitions. Unfortunately, these four trips were canceled due to the COVID pandemic. I am looking forward to studying abroad as part of my college experience and hope to find opportunities to volunteer abroad. While I have not had the opportunity to travel extensively, I am appreciative of the trips that I have taken because they have taught me that life is about the journey and not the destination. As exciting as it is to say that I visited a forgein country, what has truly made an impact on me was immersing myself in another culture through meeting new people, trying new food, and seeing the unique nature and architecture of a place. Currently, I do not have clarity on what my future career may be, but I do know my passion is to innovate solutions at the intersection of engineering and healthcare. Therefore, it is my sincere hope that participating in the Global Engineering RAP and studying abroad will give me insights that will steer me in creating global solutions to challenges that impact the health and well-being of society.
I would like to live down the hall from someone that is open to embracing the full college experience. As a dual enrollment/college direct student and with the COVID pandemic, I have had a non-traditional high school experience. I have not regretted this pathway as it has allowed me to stay challenged and discover pursuits I am passionate about. However, I would like to explore all that college has to offer, especially since I missed the true high school experience. Down the hall from me, I would love to have a person that is willing to go to football games, join a club, go explore Boulder, or spontaneously eat ice cream with me. As much as I want to have fun and get the full college experience, my education will still be my priority. Therefore, I would want someone who is focused, driven, and equally passionate about their studies to live down the hall from me - someone that embraces their inner nerd and geeks out on the infinite intersections and applications of what we are learning. If we had questions when studying, I would love it if we could head to each other's rooms to work through a few challenging problems, but then finish our work independently so that we each had a deep comprehension of the assigned material and concepts. Ultimately, I would like to be around someone that challenges me to be my best and makes me laugh, yet is still respectful and supportive. I look forward to growing together with this person as we will be forever changed after our first year of college together.
While English is my native language, I have had the opportunity to take Spanish at my schools since kindergarten. Last year, I completed Spanish III and Spanish IV at Arapahoe Community College as a dual enrollment student. Part of my college search this past year has placed emphasis on universities with opportunities for immersion and fluency in Spanish. I have also been looking for study abroad opportunities and was thrilled when I discovered the Global Engineering RAP. The Global Engineering RAP is the perfect community of like-minded individuals that I hoped to contribute to in college because it provides opportunities to grow and be challenged by my peers, while also helping me to achieve my goal of becoming truly fluent in Spanish. Additionally, I have also wanted to be exposed to and gain competency in languages such as French and Russian. As an international ice climbing competitor, the ability to effectively communicate with each other is essential because it helps us grow by learning from each other and ultimately keeps us safe. Furthermore, I understand that being engaged in a supportive community like the Global Engineering RAP will enable me to thrive as I navigate being a new engineering student at the University of Colorado Boulder. I look forward to the support and friendships that being a member of a community provides, as well as, being challenged by my peers. In turn, I sincerely hope that I can challenge them and help them grow into the best version of themselves. My friends and teammates would describe me as positive, organized, inclusive, hardworking, and dependable. These are strengths that I hope would compliment and be an asset to the Global Engineering RAP. As an engineer, it is crucial to have a community to bounce ideas off of and work together when learning concepts that are challenging to grasp. The Global Engineering RAP would provide me with a safe place where I could share my ideas with my peers, feel supported as I work towards gaining a deep level of understanding in the rigorous engineering classes, and apply my forgein language skills to the engineering field.
