My family is very diverse as they are both Hispanic and Italian. As a result, I have been very fortunate to travel to different countries such as Mexico, Jamaica, the Caribbean, and Italy. Every summer since I was born we travel to Miami, Florida so we can spend time with my grandparents. There we are immersed in their culture. They speak Spanish and Italian, we eat lots of delicious Cuban and Italian dishes, play dominos and hear stories from their countries and childhood. So I have been able to fully experience a highly
diverse and inclusive environment being around my family who all have learned English as their second or even third languages. I really look forward to participating in the Global Engineering RAP and continuing to converse with others in Spanish and learn about different cultures.
I would want the person down the hall from me to be thoughtful, caring, honest, helpful and compassionate about helping others succeed. I would like that person and I to be like-minded so as a team we can work together for the common good. I attended International Baccalaureate (IB) World schools since kindergarten and it taught me to inquire, be knowledgeable, caring and motivated to succeed. Participating in an IB program helped build my critical thinking skills, made me more curious and enhanced my abilities to solve complex problems. It also taught me to build a better world through an understanding of different cultures. I would want another IB student down the hall from me.
It's all about community and team work. When the Global Engineering RAP team works together, we will accomplish much more than apart. Being a part of the Engineering Community, I know that my training in computer science will benefit as we strive to solve problems for the greater good. CU Boulder will provide the tools needed to succeed and the RAP will be the incubator that will bring those tools to bear in an effort to make a difference. More importantly, growing as a person and having a better understanding of global issues are attributes that drive me. With that drive, compassion and computer science training, and knowledge I will contribute and benefit personally and professionally along with those living in residence as part of the Global Engineering RAP.
