I moved to Switzerland in 3rd grade. My dad got an offer from his work and he decided to take it, but it meant our family would have to move to Europe. It was an amazing experience, but came with many hardships. I had to leave all of my family and friends, which did not cross my mind at first. Leaving was easy because it did not feel like a real move, it felt more like a trip that we would be back from in a couple weeks. When we actually arrived in Switzerland, it hit me. I would not see my old friends for a long time, and everything was foreign to what I had experienced during my life so far. We settled into our new home and relied on each other heavily. For a while, my family members were my only friends. When I began school there I knew I needed to make new friends. I had to work hard to make friends and keep them. I had to learn to be very courageous as I was a shyer person. Since it was an international school, people were always coming and going. The process of losing and making new friends was never ending over there, which has helped me today to be so welcoming to everyone. It also taught me that I am capable of adapting to any situation; I learned about a new culture, I learned a new language, and I learned a lot about the world that I had never known before. I know how hard it is to start over, so I try to make it as easy as possible for others to do so. This experience was and is so important to me still because it has shaped how I communicate with other people and stay positive even when times get tough.
I would want someone respectful and smart. I would want someone who keeps there room not smelling bad and who would be friendly and easy to communicate with. It would be cool to have someone who comes from a different background and someone who loves the outdoors and is just as passionate about learning as I am.
I would love to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder because I think it would enhance my experience. I think living with people who are interested in the same things and are in similar classes to me will be very beneficial and I could learn a lot. I hope to contribute even more to the RAP as I am a very friendly person with a passion for learning and creating. I am excited and motivated to thrive at CU Boulder and I truly believe being a part of this RAP could help me to do that.
