One of the primary reasons I am applying to the Global Engineering RAP is to explore different cultures and to learn about different places and people around the world. I have never studied or traveled out of the USA which is why I am so eager to get out and explore the world through the RAP and on my own during and after college. Although I haven't physically been to any Spanish or French-speaking countries, I have close friends who are fluent in those languages and they are always accepting of anyone willing to learn their primary languages. I studied Spanish and French in high school and am open to expanding my knowledge and exploring these cultures further. I believe that being equipped to communicate with others is extremely important and that learning about new languages and cultures can get you out of your comfort zone.
I would want the person living down the hall from me in the RAP to be friendly, light-hearted, and adventurous. These are traits that my current friends have and I enjoy spending time with them often in and outside of class. I also like to surround myself with people who are relaxed and don't let themselves get overly stressed. I would also be excited to live down the hall from someone who could teach me about something they are passionate about, whether it is school related or not. I'm always eager to educate myself on topics I'm not familiar with, which is what the college experience is all about.
I want to become a member of the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder because interacting with other aspiring engineers while improving my own global awareness is an opportunity that I would regret passing up. I am confident that working with others who are driven to make positive changes in the world will help develop my engineering and social skills. I plan to contribute personally to the RAP by maintaining an encouraging presence around others and working hard to come up with new ideas. My ultimate goal would be to use my technical skills to help others who are less fortunate in developing countries.
