I have lived in India for several months at a time. From both sides of my family, I am lower caste. When I was in India, I stayed with and visited them in their villages in Punjab: Bara Pind and Godani. I have seen and experienced the disadvantages to basic needs that poor and marginalized communities in India face. From education to food and water, I have always wanted to center my future career pursuits to benefit and go back to my communities in India and other communities that are suffering all around the world.
I have also visited various countries in Europe as well. I was fortunate enough to learn the cultural and societal differences between countries that focus on the needs of all their citizens (Sweden, Netherlands) with free education and healthcare and countries that focus on economic pursuits rather than all their citizens' well-being.

I would want the people who surround me in the Global Engineering RAP to be focused on humanitarian issues. I would want them to be open, creative, and empathetic.
Recently, India has been suffering a COVID-crisis. On various social media's I have seen an increase in social activism and lots of support to donate funds to organizations that can provide ventilators and oxygen to India. I have followed and supported Khalsa Aid during this time. I wanted to see what I could do to help the social message grow, so I have been working on an Instagram and Snapchat filter to promote to my friends within the Indian community.
I'm hoping to share the progress and what worked for me to spread messages of social activism to all the community members at the Global Engineering RAP. I am also hoping to hear the same from the other members!
