Unfortunately, I have not yet had the opportunity to travel abroad. I hope to do a study abroad program during college. I have traveled extensively within the United States and enjoyed visiting many National Parks.
I want the person down the hall from me to be social and inclusive so they are willing to hang out with the entire dorm. This is very important because college is both a time for meeting new people and learning. Another benefit of the person being inclusive, is that it creates a community. With this community people are able to have fun and share ideas. When people share ideas everyone benefits because the sharer can get feedback and the listener can learn something totally new. So, I hope that person won’t just hang out with their roommate, but with the whole dorm.
It is also important for that person to challenge me because I do best in a community that pushes me. I get stronger and better when surrounded by people who motivate and inspire me and, I think most people are like that.
Something else that I would like from that person is that they are from a different place or background than I am. This is so I can better learn about different people's cultural backgrounds or geographic backgrounds. I have always had an interest in how diverse the world is, and I would really like to broaden my understanding. One of the best parts about college is how people come from all across the county. I am looking forward to this opportunity to meet new and diverse people.
Finally, while part of me hopes that we will have similar interests, such as space, Marvel, and the outdoors, which we could spend hours discussing and debating, I also hope they like different things so I can develop new passions. However in the end I suspect that my dorm-mates are going to surprise me in ways that I never considered which is really exciting.

I want to pursue engineering mechanics with the aerospace engineering option because I firmly believe that humanity is on the cusp of a new frontier of science and technology. I am excited to be a part of that group of people that will push the frontier and explore and discover what is possible but in Space and on Earth. By designing and building more efficient objects, I can have an impact on the future.
Future engineers like myself have a responsibility to find ways to improve the world of tomorrow. By collaborating with my peers, I believe that we can come up with new efficient ways to solve problems. The best part about working with a team is that even if one person doesn’t have the entire solution, bits and pieces can be contributed from others. I have experienced this with my VEX Robotics Team where the final robot is not a single person's design, but a compilation of ideas and effort from the whole team. After sharing ideas we try designs that could only come from building on each other's ideas. Like I do with my Vex Robotics Team, I can work with my Global Engineering RAP peers to consider different designs and ways of solving problems. We can discuss and debate concepts, draft CAD models to visualize them and build prototypes to test and refine them. Eventually we will have a functioning design that can benefit society.
I am excited to be a part of a like minded group of Engineers that will challenge me to think outside the box. I look forward to finding a group of inclusive friends where we can achieve a comfortable work life balance. Having recently earned my Eagle rank in Boy Scouts, I also believe it is essential to give back to our communities and I hope to find a group of CU Students who value community service as I do.
