Biomedical or Bioengineering
English (5), Italian (2)
I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to travel abroad with both my family and my high school. I have had the opportunity to explore Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, and France. During my 2022 High School STEM trip, we learned how gondolas are engineered on Mt. Pilatus, toured a Salt Mine in Austria, visited the eco-friendly neighborhood of Vauban in Freiburg, and road a toboggan down a mountain in Germany. Each day we were challenged with different STEM focused activities. The following year I traveled with my high school French and Spanish classes to several cities in France and Spain. As my primary high school foreign language has been Italian, this was especially challenging for me. I was able to lean on my fellow classmates for guidance and I did attempt to use my Italian while visiting the larger cities. With each city I've visited it's been an exploration of different religions, history and food. Some of my best memories are getting to explore the different art museums, like the Guggenheim, the Vatican (a private tour with Disney Adventures) and experiencing how other cultures live and work outside of the US. The majority of my international travel has been with tour groups, so each trip has been more than going from point A to point B - it's been about learning the history of each city and country.
I would like to have someone with similar interests, but also experiences that are different than mine. I really want to grow as a person during my 4 years of college. I am looking for someone that will push me to be a better student, engineer and person. While I think I am going to go down the path of Biomedical or Bioengineering, I am not 100% sure. It would be beneficial to be around engineering students that are interested in different aspects of engineering to understand why they are passionate about their particular specialty. I plan on joining the club swim team, and it would be a nice bonus to have someone that not only is in the same classes, but is also part of the same recreational team.
I would like to be part of the Global Engineering RAP because I feel it's important to have a group of like minded, focused, engineering loving friends from day 1. I am coming from a small school in California and I don't anticipate anyone else from my graduating class attending CU Boulder as well. I am prepared for the challenges of an Engineering degree, and would feel comforted being part of a group that was sharing in the same class rigor to form instant study groups. I also want to be able to provide support to other students to help them get through our first year, combat homesickness and study and collaborate on projects and labs. While exploring other colleges, I have explored other learning communities, but CU Boulder provides a unique experience to broaden my education at a global level. I think living in the US, we tend to forget there are challenges we can tackle as engineerings, beyond our borders. Having this type of experience will make me not only a better, well rounded engineer, but a better person as well.
