When I was 13, I took the opportunity to visit Italy. I was able to walk in the Colosseum, travel to the ruins at Pompeii, witness working Roman aqueducts, and generally experience the rich history of ancient Roman society, architecture, and engineering. Since then, I've been motivated to broaden my horizons and take inspiration from global experiences like these to work toward solving engineering problems with non-traditional solutions. While not technically 'abroad', I took the opportunity to visit the remote Tlingit fishing village of Yakutat, Alaska. I talked with residents about the possibility of modernizing their energy infrastructure with hydro/tidal electricity production to replace polluting and unreliable diesel power generation. I'm excited to continue pursuing these experiences through this RAP.
My ideal hallmate would introduce me to new perspectives and be up for new experiences and adventures, all while valuing their academic success.
This would mean that, regardless of where they came from, they have had a different life experience than mine, and would be motivated to share that experience to broaden my perspective. They would also be motivated to take advantage of all that CU Boulder has to offer, in terms of lifestyle in addition to academics and contributing a shared interest in global diversity. I am always looking for people to go hiking, skiing, or otherwise adventuring with. Finally, I would be looking for someone who is excited about wholeheartedly pursuing their engineering degree and is not afraid of collaboration as one of the best pathways to success.

Ultimately, I am applying for this RAP to meet new people from diverse backgrounds and be able to apply what I learn in a variety of different situations. A career in aerospace engineering in particular, but engineering in general, is built upon the idea of bringing people from varying areas of expertise together to work toward a shared goal, and the more that I can have experiences emulating that concept the better off I, and everyone around me, will be. I intend to play a significant role in building community within the RAP and working with others from diverse backgrounds to strengthen the community at large by introducing members to all that Colorado has to offer, from skiing in the mountains to ranching on the Western Slope to camping at Rocky Mountain National Park.
