Through the Center for Talented Youth Program, I have had the opportunity to study with students across the world at top universities. My fondest memory is of my roommate Jack, who was from China. He spoke very little English, but we managed to form a friendship which I still cherish to this day.
I would love to live with someone who brings an entirely different perspective to my learning experience. I would love for this person to be an academically motivated person, who also enjoys going out and having a good time. I hope this person would be better at calculus than me, as I will certainly enjoy the benefits of being around other people doing the same work as me. Also, I hope this person speaks another language than me, as I am interested in growing my ability to communicate with people across the world. Overall, I hope this person compliments my personality, to maximize both our academic success and enjoyment of our college experience.
Being in the Global Engineering RAP will contribute to my success at CU in two distinct ways. For one, I believe that collaborating with other engineers on my work will certainly be helpful to me, as I find I do my best work in a group setting. I have found that studying alone is usually the worst way for me to learn things, and instead having multiple unique perspectives on a problem yields much greater results. Secondly, I believe being with students from across the world will broaden my perspective on life, as I have never lived anywhere outside of the United States. Being in the presence of a diverse group of engineers will allow me to maximize my learning at CU, not just as an engineer. Furthermore, I am excited to bring my own perspectives to the table and see how I can help broaden the horizons of others around me.
