Sydney Neal (she/her) is a Critical Ethnic Studies doctoral student at CU Boulder. Born and raised in Southern Maryland, Sydney earned her Bachelors Degree in Public Policy with a concentration in Race & Gender Justice and a certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park, prior to matriculating to CU. Her research largely interrogates African American relationships to land, labor (including agricultural, gestational, and intellectual), and the more-than-human, with an investigative focus on familial and colonial archives of Black Catholicism and tobacco farming in Southern Maryland. Beyond Ethnic Studies, Sydney is invested in research that elucidates Black geographies, Black digital humanities praxis, and womanist theory.
