Maren Roeske is a MA student in the Department of Geography at the University of Colorado Boulder. She holds a bachelor's degree in Urban Studies and Geography from McGill University, Canada. Coming from a community organizing background, her research focuses on the entanglements of race and place in her hometown of Detroit, MI.
In partnership with community, she explores the multifaceted ways in which Black birth workers create and sustain spaces of care, resistance, and justice amid a racial disparate and worsening maternal and infant mortality crisis. Particularly, this work is focused on Black feminist placemaking that values, protects, and celebrates Black lives and Black futures.
