Second Lecture: CAAAS Distinguished Lecture Series Presents Dr. Ethan Sanders

Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members gathered at the CAAAS for the second lecture of the CAAAS Distinguished Lecture Series to hear Dr. Ethan R. Sanders. Dr. Sanders presented: “Pan-Africanism, African Identity, and Building the African Nation in East Africa” on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the CAAAS Salon, Macky Auditorium #116 (1595 Pleasant Street, Boulder, CO 80309).

About our Distinguished Lecturer:
Ethan Sanders is Associate Professor, and Chair, of the Department of History at Regis University. He completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in global intellectual history with a focus on Africa and the Indian Ocean world. Broadly speaking, he is interested in the political and religious history of Africa and the Middle East and has published articles and book chapters on African political thought, pan-Africanism, gender and ethnicity, Christian-Muslim relations in East Africa and the Zanzibar Revolution. His recent book, Building the African Nation: The African Association and Pan-Africanism in Twentieth Century East Africa (Cambridge University Press, 2025) looks at the history of African identity and pan-African political thought in East Africa.
