Profile

Joan Ericson taught Japanese literature, language, and culture courses in Colorado College. Raised in Japan, she is bilingual and bicultural, and holds degrees in Japanese Literature from the University of Hawai'i and Columbia University. She has published on the development of the concept of modern Japanese women's literature, and is embarking on a new project on the representation of childhood and children's literature. She was a Fulbright Research Scholar at Doshisha University in Kyoto from 2010-2011. 

Ericson has organized an exhibition and series of events called Voices from Japan: Perspectives on Disaster and Hope that is held at Colorado College. This program presents art generated after the March 2011 disasters in Japan.
