Janet Shanberge

Profile

Janet has spent the past 25 years providing consulting services to multi-national and domestic companies on business development in China.  In the 1980s, as a Vice President at Chase Manhattan Bank, she was a pioneer of early-stage foreign investment in China.  She is a specialist in transaction facilitation between foreign investors and Chinese counter-parties and has a successful record of project negotiation and implementation on behalf of MNC clients.

Janet founded a consulting firm in Hong Kong in 1993 and in 2000 merged this with the U.K.-based global management strategy advisory firm, L.E.K. Consulting, becoming a partner and the first Managing Director for L.E.K.’s practice in Greater China.  In this position, she led project teams across a wide spectrum of industry, advising clients on strategic business issues.

In 2006, Janet founded Ascend International, a firm providing strategic advice to senior management on business development in China.  Janet is also a Senior Lecturer at MIT Sloan’s Entrepreneurship Center.

Janet has a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University East Asian Institute, and a BA in Chinese Studies from Vassar College.
