Sojitz Corporation is a highly diversified Japanese business conglomerate engaged in a wide variety of businesses with a group network which encompasses over 400 subsidiaries and affiliates located in over 50 countries across the globe. The in-house translation team works mainly within the Human Resources and General Affairs Department and Public Relations Department, on assignments including company manuals, training textbooks, press releases, and the company magazine.
Job Description and Responsibilities
As a translator intern, you will work within our in-house translation team to gain valuable Japanese to English translation experience across a significant range of business fields. Specific tasks could include the following.
- Work as part of a translation team on projects including:
- In-house magazine and accompanying website
- Manuals for internal IT systems
- Reports on local warning conditions for overseas offices
- More!
- Support Global HR training seminars
Dates
Program Dates: Thursday, May 31 to Monday, July 9, 2018
Work Dates: Monday, June 4 through Friday, July 6, 2018 (Mon/Wed/Fri)
Work Hours: 9:15 – 17:30 (1 hour lunch break; 7.25 hours per day, 3 days per week)
- Sojitz Corporation is located in the Chiyoda Ward in central Tokyo, with easy access from multiple train stations.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours by start of internship.
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Japanese language ability is required for this internship. Applicants must have demonstrated ability level of at least N2 on Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent. Translation exercise required with application.
- Must be Native English speaker.
- Applicants should be interested in pursuing a career in translation.
Course Credit
Intern will receive 3 credits. (Credit available from Asian Studies or Leeds School of Business; subject to requirements of the student’s major and/or College. Other options may be available.)
Costs
- Students can apply for Buffs Abroad Scholarships, and may be able to use financial aid.
- Scholarship support available through the Center for Asian Studies; limited to students who have applied for Buffs Abroad Scholarships.

- All applicants are required to complete and submit an English translation of the following page
- In addition to the application form, students will need to provide a cover letter, resume, transcript, statement of purpose, and translation exercise.
- Students may be interviewed via Skype or Facetime by the supervisor prior to selection.
- Application deadline is February 18, 2018 at 11:59 p.m.
