Catalog Description

In this program, you will explore questions of how modernity and history come to interact in today's urban China. Three of the most famous historic cities in China - Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou - are the ideal backdrop to gain firsthand knowledge on the ways in which modernity has affected the cities and the ways in which nostalgia is expressed. In exploring these cities and various cultural sites, you will better understand where China was yesterday, where it is today, and where it may be heading.
