Global Seminar - The Art and Science of Zen

Japan Global Seminar

This summer, Dan Hirshberg, Khyentse Foundation Associate Teaching Professor of Contemplative Studies in the Center for Asian Studies, led a CU Global Seminar in Japan on “The Art and Science of Zen.”  Students studied the history, arts, aesthetics and contemplative traditions of Japanese Zen Buddhism, explored Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, practiced meditation in the mountain hermitages of Koyasan, and deeply engaged numerous Zen gardens with contemplative exercises designed to highlight and enhance specific designs, styles and features.
