The Center for Asian Studies is looking for a graduate student in a field related to Asian studies to join the CAS staff as a GRA for Data Collection and Communications for Fall 2013, with the possibility of continuation in Spring 2014 and beyond.

Duties include:

Data Collection to assist with grant proposals and reporting:

  • Maintenance of up-to-date information about Asian Studies faculty, courses, and events.
  • Cooperation with various entities on campus to gather necessary statistics and other information.
  • Maintenance of CAS database; entering and updating information as necessary.

Communication:

  • Maintenance of CAS website; keeping links current, adding/updating information, etc.
  • Distribution of email announcements to CAS constituencies.

Daily support to CAS staff:

  • Small research projects as needed.
  • Assistance with planning and publicity for CAS events.
  • General office assistance for CAS.

Reporting:

  • Preparation and dissemination of regular data reports for CAS Director and other staff.

Beginning in the fall, this will be a standard 50% RA position with an expectation of 20 hours of work per week.  The position pays a monthly stipend and also carries a tuition waiver.  A training period will begin April 15 and will provide hourly compensation with no tuition waiver through the last week of the Spring semester.  Preference will be given to students with availability for some hours in the summer.

Must be organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated. This person will perform without significant direct daily supervision. Work will be reviewed regularly for satisfactory progress. Demonstrated academic interest in Asia preferred.
