Melinda L. Cain is a lecturer in the Department of Communication and International Affairs at CU-Boulder, specializing in international communication, intercultural training, and development communication. Dr. Cain has domestic and international experience with private and public entities in software translation, telecommunications, international relocation and business intelligence. Additionally, Dr. Cain has managed a consulting company since 2005 and regularly provides intercultural communication and competence training to organizations in business, health care, education and community services.
Susan McEachern is the Editorial Director at Rowan & Littlefield, a publishing company that provides professional and scholarly books throughout the humanities and social sciences. Ms. McEachern served as editor for two exciting publications, China Beat and China beyond the Headlines. Ms. McEachern is a 1981 graduate of the University of Colorado’s journalism program. From 1983 to 1996, she was an acquisitions editor and group director at Westview Press, where she developed its Asian Studies list.
Susan Schmidt is the executive director of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), the national professional organization for Japanese language educators. She graduated from CU in 1968 with a degree in political science and economics and began working in 1976 for the University of Tokyo Press as an editor of English-language scholarly books and translations. She studied Japanese and was a founding member of a professional organization for writers, editors, and translators working in Japan. After more than 20 years living and working in Japan, she returned to the U.S. in 1996.
